Dr. Russell Dilday
A native of Amarillo, Texas, Russell Dilday grew up in Port Arthur, and Wichita Falls, Texas. He holds the B.A. degree from Baylor University, the M.Div. and Ph.D. degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served as Vice President and President of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention, and President of the SBC Home Mission Board.
Following sixteen years as President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Dr. Dilday accepted in 1994 a joint appointment to the faculty of George W. Truett Seminary and to the administrative staff of Baylor University.
He presently holds the position of Chancellor of the B.H. Carroll Theological Institute headquartered in Arlington, Texas. In addition to interim pastorates at Park Cities Baptist Church, Dallas, TX, First Baptist Church, Arlington, TX, and First Baptist Church, Plano, TX, First Baptist Church, Richmond, VA, and First Baptist Church Richardson, TX, Dr. Dilday served a 10-month term as Interim President of Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX.
He has Honorary Doctorates from Baylor University, Mercer University, William Jewell College, and Dallas Baptist University. Both Baylor and Southwestern have named him a Distinguished Alumnus, Texas Baptists designated him Elder Statesman, and The Baptist Standard listed him as one of the “ten most influential Texas Baptists in the twentieth century."
